Whether teaching, co-designing, or creating spaces to think and feel together, STUDIO MAJMAJ invites collaborators to get critical, stay playful, and design beyond the functional. Let’s move together in spaces where thinking happens through making, and where play and absurdity are taken (kind of) seriously.
STUDIO MAJMAJ is the independent practice of MairiClaire (Maj) MacDonald, an post-disciplinary designer, visual artist and educator working at the intersection of play theory, (non)gendering in design, and critical pedagogy. Rooted the playfully absurd and borderline bizarre, their practice explores design as an act of disruption, play as a form of research, and care as a strategy for socially sustainable change.
“Refusing neat categories, my practice operates at the messy intersections of design, play and sensory ethnography. My focus is on questioning norms, unpicking knowledge, and prototyping change. My expanded practice doesn’t sit neatly on a shelf. It spills into workshops, lectures, public space and policy. Into playrooms, protest, and pedagogy. It trades in imagination as currency, and trades out the tired scripts of what design is ‘supposed’ to be. Here, making is messy, research is embodied, and futures are multiple. Care is not a buzzword, but a blueprint”
